This site keeps its cookie use to the minimum. There are no analytics, advertising or profiling cookies in this version, which is why nothing here asks you to accept anything.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small file that a website asks your browser to store. Related technologies, such as local storage, do a similar job. They can be useful, and they can be intrusive, so the law divides them in two.

  • Strictly necessary. Needed to deliver the site you asked for, or to keep it secure. No permission is required for these.
  • Everything else. Analytics, advertising, personalisation and profiling. These need your consent before they are set, which is what cookie banners are for.

What this site uses

This version of the site sets no analytics, advertising, social media or profiling cookies. There is no measurement product running on these pages, and no third-party tracking script.

The only storage that may be used is strictly necessary: the technical state our hosting platform needs to serve pages reliably and keep the site secure. It carries no identifier that we use to recognise you across other websites, and it is never used to build a profile of you.

The contact form sets no cookie. What you type is sent when you press send, and is handled as described in the privacy policy.

Why there is no cookie banner

Consent is required for non-essential cookies. We do not set any, so there is nothing to consent to, and asking you to accept nothing would be noise dressed as diligence. If that position changes, the banner arrives with it, and this page is rewritten before either goes live.

Third-party content

These pages embed no third-party video players, maps, chat widgets or social feeds, so no third party can set a cookie through them. If we ever embed something of that kind, it will be listed here, and anything non-essential will be loaded only after you agree to it.

Server logs

Server logs are not cookies, but they are worth mentioning for completeness. Our hosting provider records standard request information, such as IP address, browser type and the time of the request, to keep the site secure and available. Those logs are described in the privacy policy and are not used to track you between visits.

If we add analytics later

Measurement is a reasonable thing for a business to want, so this may change. If it does, all of the following happen before the first cookie is set:

  • this page gains a table listing each cookie by name, purpose, provider and lifetime;
  • a consent banner asks first, with declining as easy as accepting, and no non-essential cookie set until you choose;
  • the site keeps working in full if you decline, because nothing here depends on being measured;
  • you can change your mind later from a link in the footer, and withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it; and
  • the privacy policy and the date at the top of this page are updated to match.

Managing cookies in your browser

Every major browser lets you see the cookies a site has stored, delete them, and block them for the future, usually under privacy or site settings. You can also browse in a private window, which clears storage when you close it. Blocking strictly necessary storage can stop parts of a website working, though on this site there is very little to block.
